      From a quick glance, it appears to be as simple as recruiting Minsc into your team, talking to Jaheira about him, and then having 40+ Approval with Jaheira. I can test it for sure once I've got a save setup for those conditions.

      That DC30 Persuasion only comes up if you try to immediately talk her out of killing Nightsong at the first set of options. If you trust her instead, the second set of options are easier. And since you need 40+ Approval with Shadowheart to even see that DC30 Persuasion, you could also get her to spare at the second set of options with no skill check needed. (I explained this in my Act 2 guide video, so when I made this video, I thought the only people watching this would be those that had already seen that video. Wasn't expecting this one to blow up like it did. Whoops.)

    Fantastic and informative video. Been reading through everyone’s takes on the subject, whether the nightsong part of it is a bug or not, and I’m of two minds. On the one hand, the argument could be made that in order to fully devote herself to Selûne, Shadowheart has to rid herself of any sharran influence (in this case the “incurable” wound). This is in my head, is a justification from a purely religious standpoint. I'll go into more depth on this in a bit. From a gameplay perspective, this sort of seems like a bug. What are the Nightsong points really? They're points that indicate Shar losing her grip on Shadowheart, whether it be through her remembering her past or the player’s influence, resulting in her “spurning the Dark Lady”, as Nightsong herself puts it. Parent points, in this light, are just are a second set of memories/triggers used to see whether or not Shadowheart sacrifices not just her parents, but her past. When not enough parent points are obtained, from her perspective, she’s really sacrificing the “idea” of her past, represented in the form of her parents - the last direct link. However, the more she remembers of her past, the more inclined she is to save it. Which choice is right? Like many have said, it’s perspective. Her parents are willing to sacrifice themselves to rid their daughter of her physical pain. This is the noble and “what you'd expect a parent would say” answer. Analyzing the situation more closely, you realize it’s more complicated than that. Shar is really forcing Shadowheart to substitute the physical pain of the wound with emotional pain. It’s not simply grief, it’s guilt. It’s the idea that she could have saved her family and chose not to, making her in some way, complicit in their deaths. This is why Shar doesn't just kill Shadowheart’s parents herself. She wants to continue manipulating Shadowheart in either outcome. Shadowheart confirms this herself by stating Shar is hoping the insurmountable emotional pain will force her back into her embrace. Its the reason Shar actually restores many of Shadowheart’s horrible memories. In this sense, no ending really rids Shadowheart of Shar completely. Like many have stated, it’s a lose-lose. It strikes me as odd that the devs would intend for high nightsong points to cancel out the parent points. If you turn Shadowheart away from Shar sooner, why should that result in her sacrificing her parent? Shadowheart has no knowledge of her parents while you're gaining nightsong points. The two don't seem to have any correlation, except if you look at it from a religious standpoint. Gaining more nightsong points means you’re pushing Shadowheart closer to fully embracing Selûne, with her first act being saving Selûne’s daughter. Given Selûne’s nature of valuing life and family, it seems counterintuitive that gaining favor with her would result in Shadowheart feeling she has to sacrifice her own parents, unless Ketheric Thorm was right. Ketheric states that when his wife - and later his daughter - died, Selûne did nothing about it, despite them being faithful servants. He states that they're all just pawns of the gods. “Pieces to be moved around,” I think he says. If Selûne is really so petty as to not wholly welcome Shadowheart because she still has her rival sister’s curse, to me makes me question whether Selûne is even worth following. Lorewise, I don't think this accurately portrays the Moonmaiden, but that's what the effect the nightsong points end up having in regards to the parent situation.

    interestingly if you're a cleric of selune some of these checks are bypassed and even some dialogue options don't show up because of the differences in conversations. usually i hit most of the checks faster as a selunite than in non-selunite runs. also the windmill statue wound flare is exclusive with a wound flare from the hidden book in the ogre house.

    • @SlimXG
      @SlimXG День назад

      The journal near the ogres and the windmill are mutually exclusive, so you get the same event from whichever you do first. As for Selune clerics, yeah, knowing what I know now, I wish I'd included a quick line about them during the wolf dream conversation. I knew that it filled in for knowing about the Moonstone, but hadn't confirmed at that time that it also removes the ability to get the NSP for calling out the abuse.

      @SlimXG 2 дня назад

      I make a variety of sophomoric jokes in this video, and only referred to the size of the Thorms because it was relevant to the strategies I was describing (not being able to fit through tight spaces). So I think saying that I "rely" on fat jokes is an exaggeration. I would understand sensitivity if I was picking on actual people, but for a quick comment about a four-legged inhuman(oid) beast with a belly bloated with alcohol that is trying to kill your character, I think the defense is unnecessary. Ultimately, humor is subjective, so I know my corny jokes are not going to land with every viewer, and try not to overdo it and distract too much from the actual content of the video. I'm sorry that particular phrasing bothered you.

    • @SlimXG

    I think the logic is that Shadowheart can't truly serve either goddess with her parents still alive. Shar is the goddess of loss so Shadowheart must kill her parents to continue as a true devotee of Shar. On the flip side, if her parents live, Shar will always have a hold over Shadowheart via the curse, so Shadowheart isn't free to truly serve Selune (and she'll concentrate on her parents' welfare once they've been freed instead of serving Selune). Only by freeing her parents of their torture and allowing them to become moon wisps for Selune (I forget what the game called them), is Shadowheart free of Shar's curse and her mortal, familial duties - thus able to serve Selune. The Shadowsong points are, therefore, also an indicator of how much Shadowheart is aligning with her divine duty (of facing and [killing || freeing] the Nightsong). If she gets more Nightsong points vs. Parent points, serving a goddess takes precedence over caretaking for her parents.

    I take issue with the idea that to follow the Moonmaiden Shadowheart HAS to kill her parents. That's nonsense to me and is the antithesis of Selûnite doctrine. The only reason she has to make the choice at all is because of Shar's spite and cruelty. She wants Shadowheart to kill them so that the pain of loss will send her running back to Shar for relief. By saving them however Shadowheart is spurning Shar and Shar's doctrine and chooses to live a life of love and happiness she wanted. And Selûne empowers Shadowheart regardless. No, Shadowheart follows the Moonmaiden in the end with either choice and it's beautiful.

It's funny how in my first playthrough I didn't get enough Nighsong points but enough Parent Points, so when my Tav said, "You know the right thing to do," she saved her parents. Truly, it's bizarre to know how all worked out within the code, so I had little to no bags at all in regard to Shadowheart's quest. I can't say which ending for her is the best (from the lore perspective, it's open to interpretation to say the least, especially considering the epilogue party and how Shar, it seems, harm less her wound). I used to play with Shadowheart in my party at all times, so when i went for "female Tav male harem party" and I took Shadowheart only for Shadowfell adventure I was shocked that, left to her own choice she killed Nightsong... this vid really made my eyes open... so many little choices making so big impact in the end!

    I must say, that the question if the parents should be killed or not is still a mystery to me. For one, the parents clearly state that they want their lifes ended and also the dialog seems to imply that as long as the parents live, SH is still under the influence of Shar, even when she serves Selune. Also what happens to the (dead) parents seem to indicate that this might be the correct fate for them. Maybe that is the reason, the NS points block those parent points. It is still somewhat unclear, what a better ending is -- dead parents or living parents -- for SH herself. At least one thing is absolute clear for me: The ending with SH becoming a Dark Justiciar is a BAD one for her. That is imperative from the dialogs you get with her when you have romanced her -- and just also look what the Nightsong says aboujt the Shar service, which is absolutely true from I have seen of all of it. Shar throws away even her most devoted servants -- just for kicks.

      Right, Shadowheart being pushed more toward Selune making her want to let her parents go seems to make sense. It's just odd the way the checks are actually made in the code, and the fact that the mechanic works the same way if she's on the Shar path. With how complex all the flag checks can be for a lot of other choices, I'm surprised it was coded in this particular way, rather than with multiple specific permutations.

      @@SlimXG I am just wondering. The coding is in clear text in the game? Or is there some scrambling / unscrambling involved? What language is that?

      @What_do_I_Think The actual game executable code I've made no efforts to gain access to. The game's data files are in PAK format and can be extracted to find script files that are fairly readable. To put together the full picture on most stuff, I look through the dialogue files, the "Goals" files, and local save files.

      @@SlimXG Thank you very much. Interesting. I may also have some look, when I have time to do that. Sounds real interesting. Nice that you already have looked for us! I really profited from the last ones with the Nightsong points. I am currently testing it also -- at least the Wound flares and the resulting dialog have triggered as expected.

    I wonder if its possible theres a bug to make her dark justiciar save parents happen?

    • @SlimXG
      @SlimXG 4 дня назад

      For the Dark Justiciar version, the checks play out the same way. You can get the same Parent Points from around the city, and the "Enough" flag is always blocked if you got enough Nightsong Points. When it comes to the parents scene, you have a similar dialogue option to the one on the Selune path ("Do whatever you feel is right, Shadowheart."), and it makes the same checks: 50 Approval and Enough Parent Points for Shadowheart to spare her parents. That's what makes the whole thing seem strange, since enough Parent Points flag = NOT enough Nightsong Points, which should mean she's more Sharish and more likely to obey Shar and kill her parents.

      @@SlimXG seems like she will get "good for her" ending if we already meet the requirement point. If shart go to selune path her best decision is to sacrifice her parent while for dark justiciar path she will safe her parent instead. Both will lead her to be free of shar for the rest of her life.

    T get the silver sword of the astral plane guaranteed, get a level 5 ranger and level 5 divination wizard. Summon the bear, cast invisibility on it, make sure the wizard has a portent die high enough to guarantee a hit, use honeyed paws on Voss, and run like hell to get out of the fight. They will only be temporarily hostile and will let you progress laezel like normal

      Sorry! I considered putting it in the video, but thought some people might want to see it in-game without spoiling it, and that it might bloat the video. There are some videos of it already on RUclips, for example: ruclips.net/video/dhGM-xr7E9M/видео.html

    LMAO I didn't know about the "just drop the spear" thing. That's gold, I'm kinda surprised they didn't somehow prevent that or at least add specific dialogue for it or something

      Hahah exactly. There's even a dialogue path during the confrontation that leads to Shadowheart attacking you, but just tossing the spear away doesn't make her angry at all . .

    Huh, this is super interesting. As much as I was surprised that she chose to kill her parents in my game, I'm kind of inclined to think that this was intentional. Saving them would result in Shar permanently having a degree of control and influence on her, and her parents were telling her that they were at peace and were ready for her to let them go.
